Does your back look anything like either of those two pictures? Chances are you might be struggling with a yeast overgrowth on your body. And luckily for you, I will be sharing one rarely known way to get rid of those pesky pimples and bumps for good.
A little background on my back and chest acne: I have never struggled from those, the only acne I ever had was on my face and mainly my forehead, something I will also be discussing in the future. I always had a pretty clear back, and never had any issues with chest acne, unless I worked out and didn’t shower on a rare occasion. Suddenly I started having little tiny pimples that weren’t filled with puss, they were just red and impossible to pop. At first, I thought that it was just from sweat, and decided to let them be, hoping they would go away on their own like they always do.
A couple of weeks went by and my little bumps did not go away, but rather seemed to have spread down my back and upper arms. I was starting to get a little worried. I was embarrassed to go to the beach or wear tank tops, or anything that even remotely revealed my chest, back, or forearms. I knew I had to do something about this, and after consulting with my mom, who is a licensed esthetician, I was informed of an old remedy that people used in Europe called Nizoral.
Nizoral is an anti-dandruff shampoo and its active ingredient is ketoconazole, used to treat fungus. When applied to the skin, it kills the fungi, called candida, and dries them out. It is often prescribed by doctors in Europe in order to treat any fungal infection on the skin. Although the prescription strength Nizoral contains 2% of the active ingredient, it is not available in the United States, so I decided to give the 1% version a try. I picked up the bottle at my local Target, and although it was quite expensive, I was desperate to try anything to fix this.
The way I was directed to use it was: Apply to dry skin as a mask, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and rinse in the shower. Repeat process daily until all acne is gone. Use once a week or two for maintenance after.
I knew I had to be consistent in order for it to work, and therefore I truly gave it 3 weeks in order to judge whether or not it was actually helping.
What happened after the first use was actually shocking, I noticed a HUGE difference in the amount and size of the pimples after one night of using it. The product was clearly drying them out and slowly reducing them in size. I was happy to see results so soon.
I continued using Nizoral as a mask on my back and chest for another couple of days, the number of pimples being reduced with each use. After seeing such great results I skipped a couple of nights, and that’s when my pimples returned. I did not allow them to be fully treated before I skipped a night, and they came back with vengeance. I decided to use it consistently, and see what happens.
For an entire week, without skipping a night, I continued using the Nizoral, and my bumps were finally completely gone! In fear of them returning I continued using the product in the shower, but only as a body wash. for another 2-3 weeks, slowly cutting out towards week 3. My bumps did not return, and in fact, my skin has never looked better.
I continue using the product up to this day, not every day of course, but I do use it as a body wash about once a week, maybe once every 2 weeks. It has changed my shower routine tremendously! I cannot believe how good my arms and back look now, and it doesn’t change, even when I sweat and don’t shower immediately. On the rare occasion that I do have a pimple on my back or chest, I immediately apply Nizoral all over the area and let it sit for a couple of minutes, the pimple is gone within a day or two.
The product is truly a life saver. When I was in Europe I picked up some prescription strength product to try out on my forehead, as it may also help with that problem as well, or to have as a backup in case the bumps returned. I am very happy and recommend everyone tries it before heading to a dermatologist with the problem. Believe me, it is a miracle worker!
