Pretty Water- How You Can Detox Through Water

If you haven’t heard of detox water, where have you been?

Detox water, or as I like to call it, Pretty Water, has been all the trend in the last few years. Those of us who have been drinking lemon water for as long as we remember, shake our heads in disbelief on how long it took the rest of the crowd to hop on the train. After all, the benefits of lemon water alone should have everyone drinking a gallon a day.

What are the benefits of lemon water, you may ask? Well, allow me to spill the secrets.

  1. Lemons boost your immune system, with the great amount of Vitamin C that they contain. It’ll prevent those wintertime colds, especially if you drink it regularly.
  2. Lemons, although acidic, turn alkaline once digested, and therefore balance the body’s PH.
  3. Help with aid loss due to their high amounts of pectin fiber.
  4. Lemon juice flushes out toxins and aids in digestion.
  5. Lemons are diuretic, helping your body purify and flush out toxins.
  6. Lemon water helps in clearing the skin and achieving that healthy glow.

 

There are many more benefits that I haven’t listed because this is not what this post is about. However, you may have guessed it already, most of detox water recipes do contain lemons because of how much good they do to your body all on their own. Now if you add a little extra nutrient-packed ingredients, you got yourself detox water.

Why should you drink detox water?

Detox water will help you flush out the toxins causing you to be bloated and sluggish. It is also a great replacement for any sugary drinks you consume during the course of the day. It provides a great dose of nutrients, resulting in an energy boost, a great replacement to caffeine. We all know the importance of staying hydrated, but most of us find it hard to let go of the soda, juice, and coffee, this infused water has the flavor and the benefits of water, it’s key ingredient. So, if you find yourself not meeting your water goals for the day, try drinking pretty water instead.

 

Pretty Water Recipes

Classic Cucumber Lemon 

  • 1 medium cucumber: washed, peeled and sliced into thick slices
  • 1 large lemon: washed and sliced into thick slices

Lemon Berry Cocktail

  • 1/3 cup of raspberries: frozen or fresh
  • 1/3 cup of blueberries: frozen or fresh
  • 1/3 cup of strawberries: frozen or fresh
  • 1 large lemon: washed and sliced

Strawberry, Mint, and Lemon

  • 1 large lemon: washed and sliced
  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 5 mint leaves

Lemon Ginger Detox

  • 1 large lemon: juiced or sliced
  • small piece of ginger root: grated
  • Optional: Honey

Traditional Lemon Lime

  • 1 large lemon: washed and sliced
  • 2 limes: washed and sliced
  • Optional: Mint leaves

 

If you find yourself slacking in the hydration department, use the above recipes to spice up your water life and start incorporating more healthy drinks into your life. This might not be a solution to all your problems, but it can significantly improve your hydration, skin clarity and immune system.

If you are looking for a more serious detox, my recommendation is the Red Tea Detox, however, that is only for those seeking to shed some pounds, if you are only looking to generally increase your water intake and improve your health, the detox waters are great.
