The journey of self-discovery isn’t easy, but it is well worth it.  I haven’t always been so conscious of everything that happens around me, and to be honest, I still have a lot of work to do. However, I am proud to say that I have made huge improvements and taken steps to improve my mindset and my life for the better. 


How did I do that, you may ask?

Simple. I was handed a book. It’s as easy as it sounds. I was given a book to read, by someone very important to me that was already living the life I wanted to live.

Side Note: It is important that if you want to change your life for the better, you take advice from someone that already has what you want. What good does it do if you take advice from someone that has no idea what you are striving for? 

My journey began with one book, but it didn’t stop at that. I continued to search for books that will improve my mindset, finances, and overall outlook on life. Over the course of 3 years I managed to collect quite the collection.

Personally, I prefer to listen to audiobooks when I drive, work out, walk, or clean. It helps time pass and it’s productive. 1. The Power- Rhonda Byrnes

This is THE BOOK that has opened me up to the Law of Attraction and changing my mentality. Many of you are familiar with The Secret, whether you watched the movie or read the book, it has been eye-opening for a lot of people. I, to this day, have yet to read The Secret. Instead, I read The Power, which gave me a more simplistic and to the point run-down of what the Law of Attraction actually does and how to make it work to your advantage.

Without giving away any spoilers, this book explains the power behind the Law of Attraction (no pun intended). Its a short book that is definitely worth the read. For anyone that does not want to sit down and dedicate hours to reading an information-heavy book, this is a simple, to the point version of the classic. Rhonda Byrnes has a way of giving real life examples that make even the hardest concept to grasp easy peasy.

2. You Are A Badass- Jen Sincero

If you have yet to read this book, go out and get it right now. For anyone that is doubting their awesomeness, their skill, or their purpose in life, this book is life changing. If you are a fan of the straightforward language that Sincero uses in her book, this one will get straight to the point and make you reevaluate how you’ve been living your life this entire time. Challenging stigmas all while keeping it 100% real, this book is totally worth the read.

3. What I Know For Sure- Oprah Winfrey

This author needs no introduction. If you’re a fan of Oprah, which I can safely assume most of us are, you will enjoy her personal stories contained in this book. If you aren’t familiar with her personally, you will definitely enjoy the messages that each story contains. Oprah teaches us what is important to her that she has learned in her years, and what she is convinced she knows for sure. It’s a lighthearted, enjoyable read, and probably one of my favorite books I ever read.

4. The Alchemist-Paulo Coelho

This is a classic. The Alchemist is referenced in many personal development books because it is one of the wisest books written. Paulo Coelho tells a story of a shepherd that learns what the meaning of life is in such an enchanting way it is hard to put the book down. The Alchemist easily made it on this list after I discovered it through Oprah’s book. The infamous quote that you’ll probably recognize from any Instagram account is the leading idea of the entire book. It teaches us the core skills of finding our true purpose in life by beautiful storytelling.

5.The 5 Second Rule-Mel Robbins

Mel Robbins knows what it takes to transform your life. In her book, she explains how she had to hit literal rock bottom in order to finally come across this technique that has allowed her to take charge of her life and turn it 180 degrees. The 5 Second Rule is a tactic that will help anyone make minor adjustments to their daily routine that is easy to follow and actually kind of fun.

6. The Power of Your Subconscious Mind- Joseph Murphy

The story of how I came across this book is kind of odd. I was traveling to New Orleans, which was my number one place to visit in the States for a while. I wanted to get a reading done there for my birthday, and I did just that. The psychic that did my reading suggested that I read this book, and she was charming, so I decided to give it a go. I love this book, the knowledge contained in this book is so incredible and it should be read by everyone. It is not an easy read, so it’s important to split it up into chunks and possibly read it more than once, but overall this book is amazing. 

7. Atomic Habits- James Clear

If you’re the technical type and would prefer step-by-step instructions rather than a story, this is the book for you. There is no hidden meaning or secret message, this is the most straightforward book I’ve ever read. If you want to make a lasting change and are wondering how to do it, whether it is quitting smoking, or starting to work out, this is the book for you. Atomic Habits teaches you how to break a habit and replace it with a better one.
