In light of recent events, I have been spending a lot of time at home. What that has allowed me to do, is finally catching up on work, but more importantly, it allowed for some well-deserved Netflix binge days.
I am not a movie person, there, I said it. Although I do enjoy watching some new releases (my recent favorite: Bad Boys For Life), I am most definitely a show person. I like getting into the nitty-gritty of the story, something that a five-season show definitely does. As an aspiring writer, I love understanding the background of each character, their thought process, what happened before, and after the main plot, I want to know it all. This is why binge-watching all of the new Netflix shows has become my favorite lazy day routine.
I get so excited when I find a new show to watch, preferably one that has more than three seasons. I live vicariously through the lives of the characters, and after it’s over, I have trouble coping with reality. Am I the only one?
In this post, I want to share with you all my recent Netflix discoveries, some old, some new, that I have spent hours watching the past couple of weeks.
1. The Witcher
If you haven’t hopped on the bandwagon yet, this is the perfect time to do so, as the episodes are around an hour each, and need your undivided attention if you really want to follow the story. A disclaimer: This is not your typical fantasy series, it isn’t about love and fairy dust, it has more of a GOT theme. But if the ratings are not convincing enough, just take a look at Henry Cavill in the white hair, that should do the trick.
2. Love Is Blind
I’m sure you’ve seen the memes, and if you haven’t, I guarantee if you ask anyone about that show, they’ll all have a lot to say. It’s a very entertaining show, to say the least. I’m not usually a fan of reality TV or dating shows, but this one tops the charts for me. It’s a perfect balance of ridiculous and cute, gives you a sprinkle of secondhand embarrassment and a few ‘aww’ moments. A good watch for a casual Friday night, don’t forget the wine, you’ll need it 😉
3. Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C. J. Walker
Are you a fan of historical shows? This one I stumbled on today, and I already finished it. It is not a long show, but it sure is a good one. I’m sure you heard the name, you have an idea of who she was, but you never really knew what the details were. This show will give you an in-depth look into America’s first woman millionaire and entrepreneur. For all my boss ladies, this is a must-watch!
4. Zumbo’s Just Desserts
For fans of baking shows, this one will be a hit! I love baking shows, but this Australian Willy Wonka themed show is my favorite of them all. I like the structure, cast, and most importantly, the baking! I think it truly allows the bakers to show their craft and creativity, and it was a pleasure to watch.
5. Next In Fashion
This show is the first of its kind. Competition, but make it fashion-literally. The show consists of some known and some not so known designers showing off their skills. Each episode has a different theme, and it gets more exciting as more people get eliminated. It’s a highly enjoyable show, something that isn’t your usual cookie-cutter competition.
Those are my TOP 5 shows that you can binge on Netflix during these upcoming weeks. If you have any recommendations don’t hesitate to share!
